If a book doesn’t grab me in the first 10 pages, I probably won’t keep trying. Life’s too short to read books I don’t enjoy. My favorite author is Lorrie Moore and my favorite book is always the one I’m currently reading. I generally read fiction, but I also like memoirs and travel essays.
My All-time Faves:
About a Boy by Nick Hornby
Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name by Vendela Vida
Letters from Yellowstone by Diane Smith
Like Life by Lorrie Moore
The Member of the Wedding by Carson McCullers
Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
Persuasion by Jane Austen

In trying to describe what I read, I started compiling a list of my favorite books. Then I noticed that, with the excpetion of The Phantom of the Opera, the books I read all share a common thread. They are about strong-willed women determined to make life better for themselves and the world around them and will fight injustice whenever given the opportunity. I have a feeling that this is what has made me want to do that myself. My favorite thing about a good book, when I find one, is that I am transported to another time and another place and can be there with the character experiencing all of the emotions that she is experiencing.
My Favorite Books:
The Anne of Green Gables Books by Lucy Maud Montgomery
Little Women by Louise May Alcott
Pride & Predjudice by Jane Austen
Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder and the rest of the Hannah Swensen Mysteries by Joanne Fluke
The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux
Raney by Clyde Edgerton
State of the Onion by Julie Hyzy
Beyond Tomorrow by Fern Michaels
A Christmas Mystery in Provence by Mary-Jane Deeb
Catering to Nobody by Diane Mott Davidson
The Irish Manor House Murder: A Torrey Tunnet Mystery by Dicey Deere
