As mentioned on the show today, J.T. Ellison will be at Reading Rock Books on Wednesday, Sept. 29th, at 7pm, signing her newest book, The Immortals. Ellison is the bestselling author of the Taylor Jackson series, all of which take place in Nashville. We’re very excited to have her and hope you’ll join us!
Local Gourmet – September Selections
As part of “The Local Gourmet,” which airs the 1st and 3rd Saturday at 1pm on WDKN, Reading Rock Books brings you food-related book reviews. Here are all the ones discussed in September’s shows:
September 4 – The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
We don’t often review novels on the show, but this one is special. A Reading Rock favorite since it first came out, Guernsey is a book for booklovers. Set just after WWII, it tells the story of a book club that started because of a roast pig. (Click here to read our original review of the hardcover.)
The original Reading Rock Book Club read this book in August and celebrates its second anniversary this month.
Sophisticated enough to be really useful and funky enough to not be intimidating, these cookbooks by sisters Megan and Jill Carle are great for all beginning cooks, not just teens. The subtitle of Teen’s Cook, explains the books’ strength: “How to cook what you want to eat.” The recipes range from a one-person serving of pot pie (baked in a mug), to meals to feed an entire study group. Perfect for students going away to college or moving into their first apartment, these books make great gifts.
